A Day Here

A Tuesday, beginning to end.

People ask what life looks like here. The honest answer is that no two days are the same — but Tuesdays tend to go like this.

6am – 12pm

Morning.

I start the coffee at six. The early risers come down in robes and slippers, and the first conversation of the day happens at the kitchen counter. Breakfast at eight — eggs the way you like them, oatmeal, fresh fruit, and bacon for whoever wants bacon. By ten, the living room and the back porch are full. Tuesdays a music volunteer comes by with a guitar; Thursdays a clergy member visits for whoever wants company.

12pm – 6pm

Afternoon.

Lunch at noon, in the kitchen together. Wednesdays are meatloaf days, Fridays are fish, the rest of the week rotates with what's good at the market. After lunch is quiet time — naps, books, the back garden in season. By three o'clock the cards come out for whoever wants to play. Four o'clock is tea and whatever was baked that morning. A physical therapist comes by twice a week for the residents with a standing order.

6pm – 9pm

Evening.

Dinner at six, all of us together. After dinner the TV goes on for whoever wants it; the rest of the house is quiet. By nine the house is settled — doors open or closed by preference. I do rounds at ten, again at two, again at five. I sleep here. If a bell rings, I come. That's the promise.

About this place.

There's no kitchen staff, no shift workers rotating in and out, no front desk. It's me — a registered nurse with twenty years of experience — doing the cooking, the medication, the laundry, the phone calls. One trusted relief nurse covers the rare night I'm off. Licensed by the state for assisted living. Most needs short of skilled nursing.

If a resident's needs grow past what I can safely manage alone, I'll tell you directly. That's the deal, and it's what makes the rest of it work.

Made it this far?

Even if none of these templates fit, I’d love to build one that does.

If you read this far you clearly care how your tax practice shows up online. Tell me what you actually need and we’ll iterate together. For my first couple customers I’m waiving the $499 setup fee — just the $49.99/mo to keep the lights on.
